Boom Merchant is on a roll right now, and after a busy 2025, he starts 2026 with an intense techno EP on Elektrotribe. Operativo features three bass-heavy tracks with hypnotic drums, brooding atmosphere, and intense melody.
Elektrotribe is a record label headed up by Moog Conspiracy, who Boom Merchant remixed via the imprint at the close of 2025. This is Boom Merchant’s first solo EP on the record label, adding to a catalogue that also includes other record labels ranging from LaLa’s Brand New Records to T78’s Autektone Dark.
Born in Ireland, Boom Merchant made a name for himself when living in Scotland. He was a prominent part of Glasgow’s underground techno scene, holding down DJ residencies at some of the city’s most prestigious nightclubs.
After building a DJ reputation that led to numerous international bookings, Boom Merchant is now based in Mexico, where he is making waves within the North American techno scene.
Opening with the title track, “Operativo” has a pumping groove with throbbing vocal textures, and raw percussion underscoring filter-swept pads.
“Hang Time” has an ambient intro, where a murky atmosphere develops into a heavy groove laced with tantalising euphoria.
Last of the three tracks, “Inhale/Exhale” has thrashing hi-hat rhythms and a swelling bassline, sandwiching the percussive pops of pitched drums.
