Calibre, Blu Mar Ten, Erykah Badu, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Bo Saris and Adam F feature on the label’s latest heavyweight vinyl release.
Re:versal Records returns with REV004, bringing together four drum & bass cuts unearthed from the Universal Music Group archive and pressed onto limited-edition heavyweight vinyl.
Built around deep cuts, rare remixes and defining moments from dance music history, Re:versal Records has explored more than 100,000 releases in the archive, sourcing original DAT masters and overlooked versions that deserve another life on wax.
REV004 turns its attention to drum & bass. Calibre opens the record with two characteristically restrained remixes, first reshaping Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ ‘Garden’, before taking on Bo Saris’ ‘She’s On Fire’.
On the flip, Blu Mar Ten revisit Erykah Badu’s ‘On & On’, recasting the neo-soul classic through intricate percussion, spacious atmospherics and rolling low-end. Adam F’s ‘Circles’ closes the record in its concise 7” form, returning to one of the defining tracks of 1990s British drum & bass.
“Drum & bass completely changed what was possible with electronic production,” says Felix Lindsell, label manager at Re:versal Records. “These four tracks show very different sides of that history, from Calibre and Blu Mar Ten’s approach to remixing through to a record like ‘Circles’, which still sounds remarkable nearly 30 years later.”
Alongside its vinyl releases, Re:versal Records explores the roots and history of electronic music through interviews, archive stories, documentary clips and editorial features, tracing the people and places behind the music.
