Tommy F Interview [Q&A]
An exclusive interview on EDM Cave with Tommy F, Music Producer and DJ based in Greece.
-Tell us please how you begin with music and djing?
Without having a lot of knowledge about music, I started with an internet radio that I made when I was 16 years old to play music for my friends. Then came the university which, luckily for me, was focused on Music Technology and somehow all this new world started to get bigger in my mind. So it began with the first parties where I was playing music as a student and then among other lessons we had at school the production started.
-How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?
I spent many hours on Spotify listening to new lists every day. Also from Beatport and the charts that have the new releases.
-With which labels and artists have you worked on?
My first professional work was with the Spanish Deep Rhymes where I released a 3 track EP and from there on 3 Singles followed with Alveda Music. I haven’t done any collaborations with other producers though.
-Any new releases?
My last release was Dark Spectrum in mid-August. A new track is coming in the next two months.
-In the studio, what’s your set-up?
A small standard studio. My computer, my speakers and a midi controller to write my music. A separate space is given for my console with which I mix my sets.
What is your creation process in the studio?
I will start to write music after I have cleared my mind of thoughts that are blocking me. Stress for example… When I write I want to be 100% there. After I have decided what style I want to write in, I will start with the beat and then I will add sounds and samples that I like. After hundreds of changes we arrive at the final result.
-Your typical DJ set-up?
I like to start with a low bpm and slowly go up to Afro house, house sounds and end up in ethereal techno and breakbeat. Also, I always take in consideration the audience I am playing for. It’s a combo.
-What have you done online? Have you seen any DJ video streams that impressed you?
I really like watching DJ videos with the cercle making all the difference. During the quarantine, my mates and I tried to make something like this by shooting a set in Pelion mountain which is a magical place to be. The project was called the Cynefin Sets.
-How do you think the electronic music scene was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?
For sure, the pandemic changed the whole world of music for a long time. As our whole life changed, so did music. The world became estranged, we stopped dancing next to each other. The music production decreased and the sales too. Concerts and events did not take place. But we will definitely be back at 100%
-Do you have other activities besides music?
Walks with friends, excursions, watching football, Netflix, Radio which I have been doing for several years.
-What can we expect from you in the future?
Definitely a lot of music with new releases. I am also about to start a new group for more sound experiments.
