Boom Merchant

Boom Merchant debuts on Simina Grigoriu’s Kuukou with gritty techno EP, “Peer Pressure”

Boom Merchant debut’s on Kuukou Records with a driving techno EP that’s wrapped in euphoria.

Simina Grigoriu‘s Kuukou Records has become a breeding ground for innovative techno producers, and Boom Merchant is the latest of those exciting talents.

Originally from Ireland, Boom Merchant now calls Mexico home, after spending many years living in Scotland. His music takes influence from genres ranging from jazz to hip hop, and he mixes aspects from those genres with hypnotic techno percussion.

“Peer Pressure” is the title track, and it centres around a monstrous arpeggio synth, which has menacing intent, plus hints of euphoria. There are also hip hop vocal snippets, and fragmented percussion sequenced into a swirling groove.

“Arco” is a slightly more stripped back track, where euphoric pulses intertwine with a heartfelt vocal. Dark atmospherics and the rigid framework of percussion, ensure a solid groove that keeps the intense energy flowing.

Both these highly functional tracks are very distinctive, and breaking the mould, they are ideal for anyone who worries modern techno has become too formulaic.
