Interview with DJ’s From Mars

In the wake of their recent rework of Tomcraft’s classic hit ‘Loneliness’ alongside the legendary Hardwell, DJ’s From Mars sit down with the EDM Cave team to talk early influences, the creative process of this remix and much more in this exclusive interview with EDM Cave!

Growing up in Italy, what were your first encounters with dance music?

Back in the 90’s, we were in the “alternative/indie/rock” area, going to these kind of clubs, where electronic music was almost forbidden, but some music came out in those days and it changed everything: it was the music of Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Underworld…. that was the first time electronic music was breaking through, not just in the clubs, but it became a style that every kid was excited about….and so we were!!

How can you describe the effect that your home country has had on the musical style and sonic profile of your music?

Actually we try to be international. Italy has a big impact on our lifestyle and background, but in the last years, we travel the world 12 months a year, we get to know so many different cultures and lifestyles, and we try to be focused on a global market rather than a local one. We think that the power of new technology (Internet, Social Media) is that in 2023, we can make music that a kid in Japan can understand, and this is great….that would have not been possible 20 years ago. Or at least, it was really difficult to understand the global market. Now it’s easier and we’re totally embracing it.

That’s our point of view about music. When it comes to food, it’s totally different. We’re totally Italians when we sit at a table for dinner.

You have worked with some of the biggest and best in the industry, which has been your most rewarding collaboration and why?

Definitely working with David Guetta in the last years is a big achievement for us.

We made some remixes for his tracks, we work on some mash-ups for the sets, and working with such a legendary and iconic Dj and producer is amazing! He’s super motivating, he’s in the game since long long time and he’s still 100% focused like a 14 years old kid who just started! Also his knowledge is impressive, and we learn something every time we speak with him. That is totally awesome for us, we improve our skills working with him, and this is helping our career even when we work on our own, keeping in mind his suggestions for every move we make.

What are the main positives you gain from a collaboration? How does this differ from the positives you take from a solo release?

The good thing of collaborations is that we get to reach some new audiences. We release a track with Hardwell, and his fans get to know our name. That is really good to expand our audience. Same thing happened with the Oliver Heldens collab. Basically it’s a way to spread our brand to new listeners. And of course, the quality of the music is also a great point.
We have our vision of a track, and when you work on the same project for weeks you can easily get lost, or lose your focus. Then someone else jumps on the project and his vision is 100% clear, he knows what to do, cause it’s new to him. That’s the way the ideas are developed when we work in synergy, and usually the results are always better than when working alone.

Where did the masks come from? Will we ever see you guys without?

AHAH no! We started with this idea long time ago, for random reasons, but we noticed people was interested, everyone wanted to take a photo with us…. and we were totally unknown back then.. So we think we’ll keep this mask idea forever, also it helps being a dj when you’re 76 years old and you don’t want people to know that.

So yeah you’ll never see our real faces sorry!
