Interview with MAMöro
Hey MAMöro, how was 2024 for you? What would you say was the highlight moment?
Hello and thanks for having me! 2024 was a year more dedicated to studio and production. I dedicated most of my time into production and I produced some great tracks. Some of them already came out in 2024 but the majority of them will be released now in 2025, so I advise everybody to stay tuned!
Your recent remix for Kaii (PT) “Attraction” – how did that come about?
KaiI is a good friend of mine and we were talking for quite some time about doing something together. After he released his single he asked me if I could do a remix of the track which I said yes if he was comfortable with me doing something sounding completely different from what he did. He gave me full freedom and I made the track in 2 days as I had already so many ideas in my head from the moment I heard the track.
And what was your creative process behind it? Was there an aim for the sound from the start?
His version of the track is a bit more to the organic side and I wanted to do something with a more Afro groove and explore more the vocals with different layers, calls and responses to make it more groovy and dynamic. He sent me the vocals and I started to build the piano and pads around it. After that I created the groove and started to build the arrangement. After I completed the arrangement I went back to the beginning and started to fill the track with vocal layers, small synth licks, some effects and that was it.
Can you elaborate on which artists or genres have had the biggest influence on you?
I must say that the artist who has the biggest influence on me .. is me!! You must be the first to believe in yourself more than anybody else and I see me as my biggest adversarie. The more I focus on my work, the things I am doing and the things that need to be done, the closer I will be to succeed and accomplish my goals. Afro House and Melodic Techno are my main genre selections.
How do you approach sound design, and what gear or techniques do you rely on the most when creating these textures?
Sound design is a creative and technical process that varies depending on the type of track I’m looking to produce. I usually never start the process the same way. Sometimes I start building around the vocals, some times with the baseline and keys, and sometimes I start straight from the groove.The main technique I probably most use, is to create a 16 Bar loop and I fill it with all the instruments I want for the track. After that I proceed to the arrangement, fx fills and automation before sending it to mix & master. My production signature I would say is Dynamic, I like to switch and introduce things every 8 or 16 bars and create sub-layers for extra texture so this way we will have something that will create excitement and curiosity from the start to the end. Regarding the gear I keep it very simple as I think that you don’t need to over complicate things and fill up the studio with things that will overwhelm your workflow. Komplete S49 Mk2 for the keyboard and Maschine MK3 midi pad. Regarding synthesizers, Serum, Diva,Omnisphere are the ones I use the most but lately I have been exploring Vital as well. I can either use preset sounds or design it which is a slower process to me.
What dreams and goals do you have for 2025?
The main goal for 2025 is to get out of the studio and start to have more consistent gigs. This past year I have produced so many tracks that I can easily be away from the studio for the entire year. Returning to Ibiza this year is also a priority but overall I just want to succeed in the profession I have chosen for myself.
Lastly, what was the last record you heard that made you go wow?
I don’t know the name because I think it’s an unreleased track from Chaleee. It was played by Sammi Ferrer at the premiere of Exodus in Lisbon.The track was so intense that I can’t even describe it in words. I can’t wait for him to release it.
