Getting To Know Italian Producer PEKKA
Making huge waves across the dance music world with his hypnotic sound and enchanting productions, eighteen-year-old Italian producer Pekka delivers his latest cut in the shape of Sensitive – out today on Swiss imprint PinkStar Black.
Hello PEKKA! Welcome to EDM Cave. Where are we speaking to you from today?
Hello everyone, nice to meet you! Right now I am in my studio listening to new releases for my next evenings.
For those that might not be familiar with you, can you introduce yourself?
I’m Pekka, I’m an 18 year old DJ and producer, I started doing my first work at the age of 11. I come from Pesaro, an Italian city.
Congratulations on your new single ‘Sensitive’. Can you tell us about this record and what the process was like?
Thank you, the Sensitive track is based on the contrast between the very melodic intro that gives you the impression of being on space and the very deep and captivating drop.
The idea for this song came to me one night when I was playing with my synth and I had the idea of arpeggio, then I decided to completely change the mood of the song and it worked.
What was it like working with the Swiss label PinkStar Black?
This is my collaboration with PinkStar Black and so far I have enjoyed it very well.
I had been aiming for this label for a long time and wanted to propose some of my works to, I wanted to be convinced of what I would send, fortunately the time that has passed has helped me to make works that have been appreciated by the label.
My patience was rewarded because the label immediately approved my songs.
How did you get into dance music?
I discovered electronic music when I was 11 years old and I was watching a YouTube video, as background music there was an electronic song and I asked myself: how do you make this song? From there I discovered the world of electronic music and started watching videos on YouTube about how to produce.
How do you find inspiration for new tracks?
There is no rule to find inspiration, sometimes it comes to me listening to a sound, other times just listening to music from a movie, from the radio, everywhere. I record all the ideas on my phone and then I implement them on my computer.
Do you remember the moment you knew you wanted to become a DJ & producer?
There wasn’t a real moment where I said “I want to be a DJ and a Producer”. I started out out of curiosity, the first electronic song I heard was “Disconnected” by Pegboard Nerds when I started listening to many artists like Virtual Riot, Zomboy, Skrillex and many others. Listening to many songs I discovered that I loved music because it made me feel emotions I had never felt before, from playing them at friends’ first parties and I started producing my first songs and my first remixes, slowly I started releasing my first works.
If you could put on your own show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would be on the lineup?
I would love to see a beautiful festival one day in my hometown and I would like to have James Hype, Chris Lake, Fisher, Biscits and many others who I do not list because they would be so many because I love music in all its genres.
What song of yours do you think best represents your sound?
Sensitive without a shadow of a doubt represents me because it comes from moments deeper than myself. I’m also very fond of the release I made before this “Automatic” release on s2 Records, with a more tech house mood.
Any final words for our readers?
I also wanted to thank EDM Cave for giving me the opportunity to do this interview! I also thank all those who support me in my great passion for music, greetings to all!
