Marcel Woods Interview [Q&A]
About 2 years ago Marcel Scheffers quit his active career as DJ Marcel Woods, because he wanted to spend more time with his family and his work as head honcho of the boutique music group 2-Dutch. Since his whole life is built around music, he couldn’t resist continuing playing a few exclusive classics sets a year, as dance classics gave him the feeling that that is exactly where his love for this scene started. In his thank you and goodbye letter to the scene he already launched the concept name ‘Bring Back The Music’.
-Tell us please how you begin with music and djing?
When I was a little boy I was buying records, and later on when I was going out to the local bar I ended up behind the turntables. Later I was asked by the biggest club in town (Club Hollywood Eindhoven, Netherlands) to become their resident. And it was then back in 1990 when I started out playing HOUSE music. 1996 I also start producing.
-How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?
For my DJing I’m not staying up to date, since I’m retired. It’s just now and then (10 times a year) I perform a classic set.
–With which labels and artists have you worked on?
Hight Contract, Musical Freedom, Spinnin’ Records, NEWS, Freaky Records, and sure I’ve forgot a few
-Any new releases?
–Your typical DJ set-up?
The regular set-up, 2 CDJ’s and a mixer
-What have you done online? Have you seen any DJ video streams that impressed you?
No, not watching anyone online
-How do you think the electronic music scene was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic?
Very hard of course, everybody in our scene is affected. It’s not only a money thing, but it’s also your passion that has been taken away,
-Do you have other activities beside music?
Yes, when I retired as an active global touring DJ I was already working on my own record company, mgmt agency and bookings company. So now I’m working in my own company (5 employers) and I’m daily active in our beloved scene. Working with artists such as: Brooks and Showtek.
-What can we expect from you in the future?
Building a solid company with a wide reach in different directions in the dance scene.
