2023 is approaching and what better way to welcome it than to remember the main highlights of the past year. Music, unique milestones and new projects are some of the things Gelida experienced in 2022. We invited him to talk more about what this past year meant, what he learned and what are his plans for the holidays.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. 2022 is almost over, we want to know what is your most important highlight of the year, both musically and personally?

Hello, and thank you for having me! Musically, I would say the support I have received by some of the biggest DJs and labels! Unreal achievement so far! And if we talk in the personal aspect, I will definitely say my new studio that I built with my partner!

What was your favorite release of 2022 (of your own)?

My favorite release is the EP ‘Rever’. It was the first release through our own label Rever Records, and the launch of my underground alias Reveuse, which is a duo I have with my partner RYBERG. We have been looking forward to it for a while!

And what was your favorite track of the year from someone else?

My Spotify wrapped showed that my favorite track of the year was ‘Cooped Up’ by Post Malone. So that is my favorite!

Did you have any special standout shows this year either that you played or attended?

I didn’t attend or play any festival this year unfortunately. However, I did watch Hardwell’s comeback show at Ultra Music Festival, and that was massive! Such a great performance and glad to see him back in the business!

What was the biggest lesson you learned in life 2022?

I think I learned that if you don’t take risks, you will work for someone who does. I keep reminding myself of that quote.

And following on, what was the biggest lesson you learned in music?

Hmm…Good question. I think some new advanced distortion techniques I learned at the beginning of the year!

If you could send yourself a message to you 5 years ago, what would it be and why?

I would tell myself to focus on my own journey. I tended to compare myself to a bunch of other artists, which didn’t help at all.

How has your sound developed in 2022?

I definitely think that my mixing and mastering overall have improved a lot and furthermore, I feel now that I am better at creating something more unique when I get inspired by a track, instead of making a similar one.

Who would you say was the most innovative artist in 2022?

I really enjoy the innovative and creative videos and tracks Ummet Ozcan has been releasing through the year! He inspires people with his way to combine different sounds and genres!

Which label or labels do you think where at the top of their game in 2022?

There is a lot of labels out there who represent different genres. So, at that point it’s hard to choose just one. However, I personally think that a label like Rave Culture keeps grinding year after year and is one of the top Big Room labels!

If any, do you have any regrets for the year behind us?

I can’t think of anything I regret from this year, so I have to say no for now!

What are your plans for the holidays?

I’m going to spend a lot of time with my friends and family, and besides that just grinding in the studio making music and have some gym session now and then.

Just for fun, if you had to take a classic Christmas song and remix it, what style would it be and what could we expect?

That is a funny question, because I have already done that 2 years ago. I made ‘Jingle Bells’ but in the Big Room genre! It was kind of fun to do, but I don’t think I will do something like that again in the near future.

Where will you be spending New Year’s Eve?

New Year’s Eve for me is all about being together with my family and my best friend. Me and my friend are doing the same things we have done for many years now. Playing a lot of ‘Call of Duty’ together and then we are listening to my unreleased tracks he hasn’t heard yet.

If you had to put 2022 into one sentence, what would it be?

The sentence would be something like ‘2022 was a beginning of a new journey’.
